At 20 years old, Payton Smith is very close to his entire family, and still lives with them at home, but he’s especially close with his dad, who travels with him and acts as his dad to day manager in his career. Payton says, “My dad and I are very close. He is somebody that’s taught me so much about life, and it’s so cool to get to travel the country with him and to get to work with him as well. Obviously he knows the line between being a father and being kind of my manager as well.”
Payton loves that his dad knows the line between being his manager and his dad. He knows that fine line and I think that it’s really cool because we get to experiment a lot with ideas,” says Payton, “But at the same time, after those ideas are done, he’s like ‘Hey, do you wanna go wet a line( go fishing)?’ And I love that, man.”
Payton and his dad, along with the rest of the family, have been spending time in their home town of Houma, Louisiana, during quarantine, while he and his dad/manager continue finding ways to promote his debut single, “Like I Knew You Would.” And while some twenty-year-olds wouldn’t want to be around their parents all the time, Payton doesn’t mind it. He says, “I’m really close with my dad. He’s taught me about having a great work ethic and that’s really somethin’ special. So, dad means the world to me.”
