Rascal Flatts’ latest song, “Back to Life,” was co-written by Shay Mooney of Dan & Shay, and it’s not the first song the group has recorded that was co-written by Shay or his partner, Dan Smyers. Shay also co-wrote their #1 song, “I Like the Sound of That” and two songs on their last album, “Love What You’ve Done with the Place” and “Hopin’ You Were Lookin’,” the latter of which was also co-written by Dan. While the guys are grateful to Dan & Shay for the songs, Jay DeMarcus says, “Every once in a while when they pitch a song, you kind of want to say, “Hmmm, you guys sure you don’t want to cut this? I mean, you’re still trying to have hits yourself, you know?” Jay jokes, “You might want to keep some of these good ones for a Dan + Shay record because God knows some of the ones you put out are…” No, I’m kidding. But, you know, you’re kind of surprised that they want to give up such great material and I’m very, very grateful.”
Lead singer Gary LeVox simply encourages Dan & Shay to, “Keep it up boys!”
