When it comes to exposing his kids to music, Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts says, “I’m the music educator for my son. He’s eaten alive with music and I have a studio in my house that I work at most of the time when I’m off the road, and he’s by my side every second, and he loves playing drums. He loves playing guitar.”
Jay believes it’s important to give his kids all the music exposure and education they crave, especially his son, because he says, “I can tell it’s in his DNA and he’s just consumed with it. So, he’s only three, but it’s wonderful to see the spark that early in a child, and I think it’s really, really important because I was consumed with music and I wished my father would’ve taken a little more time to notice that I was so into it when I was that age.”
While Jay’s son Dylan loves several Rascal Flatts songs, including “Life is a Highway,” “Rewind” and “Riot,” Jay is happy to expose him to all types of music and let him choose his favorites as he gets older.

Rascal Flatts – music education for kids :45
Jay DeMarcus – “I’m the music educator for my son. He’s eaten alive with music and I have a studio in my house that I work at most of the time when I’m off the road, and he’s by my side every second, and he loves playing drums. He loves playing guitar, and the first thing he wants me to do when I get home is sing ‘Life Is A Highway’ and ‘Rewind’ and ‘Riot’, again, to him in the crib, and I’m thrilled to do it because I can tell it’s in his DNA and he’s just consumed with it. So, he’s only three, but it’s wonderful to see the spark that early in a child, and I think it’s really, really important because I was consumed with music and I wished my father would’ve taken a little more time to notice that I was so into it when I was that age.”
