Rascal Flatts says there are a few songs on their latest album, Rewind, on which they pushed themselves a little, and they say they probably wouldn’t have recorded those songs earlier on in their career, including their latest single, “Payback.” Joe Don Rooney says it’s the songs that are more “up-tempo that have a different rhythm to ‘em, more of that disco kinda beat… We’ve never touched upon those rhythms before, those beats, on any prior project.”
Jay DeMarcus points out that “Payback” would fall into that category, a song with a bit of a more hip hoppy rhythm to it. But they’re excited to be able to include those kind of songs on their album because Jay says, “(It’s) just a lotta fun stuff that are firsts for us on this album.”

Rascal Flatts – songs wouldn’t have recorded :29
Joe Don – “I would say there’s a couple of up-tempo songs that have a different rhythm to ‘em, more of that disco kinda beat, with ‘DJ Tonight’, and I like the sound of that, it’s got the same kinda drive to it. And we’ve never touched upon those rhythms before, those beats, on any prior project and…”
Jay DeMarcus – “Maybe ‘Payback’ might be one of the songs.”
Joe Don – “Yeah, that’s nice and laid back. Hip-hoppy.”
Jay – “Just a lotta fun stuff that we, that are firsts for us on this album.”
