Sometimes after an artist finishes an album, a theme or common thread can be heard in the songs they chose to record, but Rascal Flatts says for their latest album, Rewind, there really wasn’t a theme. Joe Don Rooney says, “There’s no method there to the madness. It’s basically, we’re just getting inundated with, what we think is really good songs, and it makes it challenging to weed that down to the ones you wanna actually take in and record. And then sometimes, you take a song or two and record, and it just doesn’t quite turn out the way you wanted it, so luckily you still have these other two sittin’ over here on hold and you take and try to replace the ones that didn’t work out.”
In the end, Rascal Flatts ended up with a great album, featuring songs like “Rewind,” “Riot” and their latest single, “I Like the Sound of That,” and Joe Don says, “If there’s any kind a method, I guess that’s kind of it. It’s just a process that you just keep tryin’ to find the beautiful ones, and keep tryin’ to make a beautiful album.”

Rascal Flatts – themes or common threads :48
Jay DeMarcus – “Sometimes it happens accidentally, that there’s a common thread. This time, I think we were just tryin’ to really get the best songs we could get our hands on. I don’t know that there’s any, like, them throughout the record that we could point to, as of right now. Just good, just good.”
