When the coronavirus pandemic hit the world, it changed everything for everybody. Suddenly our lives came to a screeching halt, by virtue of the fact that we couldn’t leave our houses, life slowed down and we were all forced to operate within a much smaller realm. While the guys in Rascal Flatts are just as frustrated as everybody else at how the pandemic has derailed their life, Gary LeVox says, “I truly think it was God’s way to get everybody’s attention. Like, okay, you guys are continuously … you’re missin’ it, so I’m just gonna go ahead and reset it for ya.”
In ordinary times, the world moved at a breakneck pace and so many people were rushing through life and not taking time to appreciate life and appreciate the world around them, and Gary thinks this whole experience may have been God’s way of forcing us to slow down. But it can’t just be about the time that we’re living through the pandemic. “It’s what we do with it afterwards,” says Gary. “Do you jump right back into the rat race and lose yourself? I think it’ll change you.”
For a lot of people, it’s caused them to rethink how they’re living life and what kind of an impact they’re making on the world and on the people around them, which makes Rascal Flatts’ latest song, “How They Remember You,” so timely right now. But whether or not the pandemic changes people mentally, emotionally and spiritually, Gary believes one thing is for certain. He says, “I know now we’re all gonna be germaphobes. If you weren’t before, you’re gonna lose skin on your hands.”
