Reba McEntire made her new inspirational album, Sing It Now: Songs of Faith and Hope, as she was going through the painful experience of divorcing her husband of 26 years, who was also her manager. Reba credits her faith for carrying through, and she says, “I’m not saying that over the last couple of years I didn’t say why me, why has this happened. But I do believe things do happen for a reason and everything is so much better now for me. My life is really good, my faith is stronger than ever.”
While it’s not always easy to understand in the midst of a crisis, Reba believes everything happens for a reason and she says, “I know now what the reason was, because maybe I pulled away too far from God. Maybe I wasn’t talking to him as much as I needed to and maybe he needs me for something down the road and he needs my attention to help other people. I’m put on this earth to help other people. It’s not how many singles I’m going to have to go number one or how much money I’m going to make or many nice cars or nice houses. I’m put on this earth to help other people. And the way I do it is through music and getting to be that spokesperson of inspiration and faith and to say it will get better.”
Walking the talk that she sings about in her latest single, “Back to God,” Reba says, “The easiest way for it to get better is for you to give your life up to God. I surrendered my life. I just totally surrendered it. I said, ‘Buddy, you got the steering wheel, you plan the trip. You be the manager, tour manager, lighting director, sound engineer. You be the whole kit and caboodle for me, and he does a stupendous job.”
