(AUDIO) RILEY GREEN FELT UNDERSTOOD WHEN HE FIRST CAME TO NASHVILLE TO WRITE SONGS

CURRENT SINGLE: “If It Wasn’t for Trucks”

Before coming to Nashville, Riley Green wrote a lot of his songs by himself, about his way of life and looking at the world.  But once he started doing co-writes in Nashville, Riley says, “I was really fortunate. I think I got in the right rooms early on, even before my publishing deal and way before my record deal. The cool thing about it was, I was fans of a lot of these guys’ stuff beforehand. And beyond that, I sat down and we just kind of cut up for 30 minutes before we wrote and got to know each other.”

Besides getting to write with guys he respected and whose songs he admired, Riley also felt very fortunate that he had released a lot of songs on his own before coming to Nashville and signing a record deal, and he says, “A lot of these guys had heard some of the stuff I’d put out, and that was a big thing, was these guys were wanting to write with me because they’d heard some of the stuff that I’d written and liked something about it.”

Having that familiarity also helped Riley not get stuck in rooms with songwriters trying to write songs that weren’t his style, or were about things he wouldn’t normally write or sing about. “That was one really beneficial thing about me putting out so much music, was these guys kinda knew where my head was at, knew what kind of song I wanted to write and what kinda country singer I was, I guess.”

Riley’s latest single, “If It Wasn’t for Trucks,” is the title track off his latest EP, which he released back in September.  Fans will be happy to know he has been working on new music, which he’ll probably be sharing in some of his live shows this summer.
