(AUDIO) RONNIE DUNN’S MOM WASN’T INITIALLY ON BOARD WITH “DAMN DRUNK”

Ronnie Dunn’s mom passed away shortly after he released his latest single, “Damn Drunk,” but she had a chance to hear it when she was still alive, and Ronnie shares that she wasn’t a big fan of the title.  Ronnie explains he and his siblings “never saw her take a drink, never heard her say a cuss word, ever.”  So he laughs and says, “She got a kick out of it but she went to the grave thinking her son shouldn’t be singing Damn Drunk.”

Ronnie shared a funny story about how he tried everything he could to get his mom to say one cuss word because it was so out of character for her.  He says, “Years ago I was being devil’s advocate and I said I’m gonna buy you a house. I’m going to buy you this house but I said before I do, I called her up and I said, ‘You have to say one cuss word.’  She goes, ‘Ohhh, no.’  I worked her for about half an hour and I realized I wasn’t getting anywhere. So she got the house and stuck to her guns.”

“Damn Drunk” is featured on Ronnie’s latest album, Tattooed Heart.

Ronnie Dunn – mom’s reaction to Damn Drunk

“I went down and was joking with ‘em and both sisters and brother they were showing her all the Facebook responses and stuff. She got a kick out of it but she went to the grave thinking her son shouldn’t be singing Damn Drunk (laughs). I’m proud of the fact that she stuck to her guns. We never saw her take a drink, never heard her say a cuss word, ever. Years ago I was being devil’s advocate and I said I’m gonna buy you a house. I’m going to buy you this house but I said before I do, I called her up and I said, ‘You have to say one cuss word.’  She goes, ‘Ohhh, no.’  I worked her for about half an hour and I realized I wasn’t getting anywhere.
