Shane Profitt has only been writing songs for a few years, and it turns out the first song he ever wrote was inspired by a really crappy Valentine’s Day.

“So, I was datin’ this girl. We had been datin’ for over a year, and I was playin’ shows to help put food on the table and stuff. And I was playin’ two shows on Friday and Saturday. It was Valentine’s Day week. Well, that week, it had snowed. So, I was workin’ for the city. Whenever it snows, everybody runs a snow plow. That’s what you do. And I worked 68 hours that week, and drove to Chattanooga to play the show Friday night, and I made a couple, hundred bucks, Pocketed the money they give you for a hotel. Drove to Gatlinburg, slept for a couple of hours, played the show the next day, and pocketed that money for that hotel. And then I drove back to Columbia and waited for Kroger to open so I could get flowers. Cause I felt bad, I really did, that I missed Valentine’s Day, but I was makin’ money. And waited for Kroger to open. They opened at like six or seven that morning. Went inside, got some flowers, went out to her house, and her ex-boyfriend’s truck was in the driveway. So, that was that. I was crushed, But luckily, it led to my first song that I’d ever wrote, called ‘Gone Before Goodbye,’ and here we are.”
After that first song, Shane continued to write and get better at his craft. And so far he has had a hand in writing every song he’s recorded, including his debut single, “How It Oughta Be.”
