(AUDIO) SHERYL CROW HOPES WE ALL REMEMBER WHAT WE SAY AND DO MATTERS

Besides being an incredible musician, Sheryl Crow is also a mom to a 12-year-old and a 9-year-old boy, and in a world where kids are constantly being influenced and bombarded with messages from social media to TV to their friends, Sheryl says, “Every day I’m trying to teach them that it matters what the truth is, and it matters that you stand up for what you believe in. You know, it matters that you stand up against cruelty and even on the playground, it matters what words you choose.  It matters that you treat each other with empathy and with compassion.”

While Sheryl will never stop being a force for positivity and kindness and empathy and compassion for her kids, she says, “Everything outside of our home can sometimes work exactly opposite of that. It can try to undo everything that I’m trying to teach my children.  And it gets harder and harder. And what happens matters every day – what you say and how you treat each other.”

Sheryl considered those things as she was choosing and writing songs for her new album, Threads, which will be released on August 30th, featuring her latest single, “Prove You Wrong,” with Maren Morris and Stevie Nicks.

Sheryl Crow – trying to teach children  :38

“What you do with your life matters.  And in my situation, I have small children and every day I’m trying to teach them that it matters what the truth is, and it matters that you stand up for what you believe in. You know it matters that you stand up against cruelty and even on the playground, it matters what words you choose.  It matters that you treat each other with empathy and with compassion. Yet, everything outside of our home can sometimes work exactly opposite of that. It can try to undo everything that I’m trying to teach my children.  And it gets harder and harder. And what happens matters every day – what you say and how you treat each other.”
