(AUDIO) SIX YEARS AFTER TOPPING THE CHARTS, “HUMBLE AND KIND” HAS EVEN GREATER MEANING TO TIM McGRAW

CURRENT SINGLE: “7500 OBO”

This week in 2016, Tim McGraw topped the Billboard Country Airplay chart with “Humble and Kind,” and six years later he says, “To me, the message of that song and the scope of that song grows exponentially every day in the world that we live in now.”

Tim knew “Humble and Kind” was a special song when he originally recorded and released it, but in some ways, it was more personal back then. “I mean, it started out as sort of a microscope into your life, into your world and to how you teach your kids and what you want your kids to learn from you,” explains Tim, And then it turned into this sort of worldview of how the world needs to look at each other, and how people in general need to look at each other differently than they look at each other now.”

While the message of “Humble and Kind” was a poignant in 2016, Tim feels like the message is even more significant today. “We all could use a little grace and look at each other with a little humility and a little kindness,” says Tim.  “And I think that that song’s taken on more and more meaning, and I think it’s got a bigger megaphone, and I don’t think that I’m the megaphone. I think the song is.”

Not only was “Humble and Kind” a #1 song for Tim, but it also earned him the Country Song of the Year trophy at the American Music Awards, and Lori McKenna, who wrote the song as a prayer to her kids, took home a Grammy for Best Country Song and the CMA Award for Song of the Year for writing it.

Tim McGraw – Humble and Kind new meaning  :39

“‘Humble and Kind,’ to me, the message of that song and the scope of that song grows exponentially every day in the world that we live in now. We certainly had a sense of that when we recorded the song, of what it said. I mean, it started out as sort of a microscope into your life, into your world and to how you teach your kids and what you want your kids to learn from you. And then it turned into this sort of worldview of how the world needs to look at each other, and how people in general need to look at each other differently than they look at each other now. We all could use a little grace and look at each other with a little humility and a little kindness. And I think that that song’s taken on more and more meaning, and I think it’s got a bigger megaphone.  And I don’t think that I’m the megaphone.  I think the song is.”
