Although Florida Georgia Line hasn’t written every one of their hits, they say songwriting is the foundation of everything they do. Tyler says, “That’s how me and him got started, was writing songs together. We never ever even thought about being an artist until months and months of writing songs. So yeah, it’s a big part of who we are and what we love.” In fact, songwriting is so important to Brian and Tyler that Tyler says, “Nowadays, even if we’re not getting to write the songs, we know what it feels like to be passionate about a song and feel a deep connection with it. So, if we hear a song that’s not been cut and we love it, it’s cool to be able to say, ‘Well, let’s go out on a limb here and cut a song we didn’t write’ and it’s something that we believe in and really can feel and connect with.” That was the case with their latest single, “Stay,” which is actually a cover of a song by the rock group Black Stone Cherry. But they wrote plenty of songs on their debut album and are writing tons more for their sophomore album. “We’ve always said songwriting comes first so that’s kinda where our heart is,” says Tyler.
