(AUDIO) SUGARLAND’S MUSIC IS RIGHT ON TIME FOR WHERE COUNTRY MUSIC IS TODAY

Sugarland says their new album, BIGGER, was certainly influenced by the style and sound of today’s country music, but Jennifer Nettles says, “We didn’t listen to it and go, ‘Oooh, let’s do that,’ but we just feel like the stuff that we are naturally inclined to do, that there is much more space for that now.”

There was a time when the music Sugarland was making pushed the boundaries of country music, but now Jennifer says, “We smile in a very humble way, to say when you think about the rap in ‘Stuck Like Glue,’ and at the time it was like scandalous and now there’s Sam Hunt. You know what I’m saying? And that’s his gig, you know what I’m saying, his ‘rep.’  So I think it’s fun for us to get to play with all these things that we’ve enjoyed and all these influences that we have but in a way where I think the audience is more broad.”

Kristian Bush agrees and thinks that possibilities for country music and country artists is limitless.  He says, “I think it’s right on time. I mean watching Maren [Morris], her voice go across the top of that pop track that’s going on right now.  It’s just oh my God, yes. And there’s no reason that what we’re doing, any of us in this town, can’t achieve that.  It’s just a perception move and some backbeat.”

Sugarland will release BIGGER, featuring their latest single, “Babe,” on June 8th.
