(AUDIO) SUGARLAND IS ‘STILL THE SAME,’ BUT SO MUCH HAS CHANGED

With the release of their new single, “Still the Same,” Sugarland is picking right back up where they left off, when they decided to take a break from the duo to pursue other things.  But at the same time, a lot of life and experience happened during that hiatus that will certainly have an impact on them and their music.  Jennifer Nettles explains, “I think we’ve had almost six years of experience growing and evolving as artists and as writers, Kristian as a producer, myself as a performer, Kristian as a performer, and we’ve also done things that I think expand us in new ways.”

Besides their own personal growth, Jennifer also recognizes, “Technology is different now.  So all the production work, for example, that Kristian has been doing over these years, he hasn’t stopped.  He’s just continued moving with that but it’s something new for Sugarland to use.”

Something else that’s pretty interesting to think about is that when Sugarland decided to take a break back in 2012, Jennifer was pregnant with her son Magnus, so she points out, “Kristian doesn’t know me as a mother,” which is certainly something that can have an impact on her music making process.

Sugarland is currently recording their first new album in seven and a half years, which they will release later this year.

Sugarland – how changed  :43

Jennifer Nettles – “I think we’ve had almost six years of experience growing and evolving as artists and as writers, Kristian as a producer, myself as a performer, Kristian as a performer.”

Kristian Bush – “You as a producer…”

Jennifer Nettles – “And we’ve also done things that I think expand us in new ways. You know technology is different now.  So all the production work, for example, that Kristian has been doing over these years, he hasn’t stopped.  He’s just continued moving with that but it’s something new for Sugarland to use.  Or the stuff that I’ve done, you know in terms of theater and performing, and the ways vocally that I’ve been able to grow, I hope I’m able to bring that to the project too. Those are just some small examples. And we’ve also had lives, you know within that, Kristian doesn’t know me as a mother.”

Kristian – “Yeah.”

Jennifer – “You know.”
