When Taylor Swift first offered Sugarland the song “Babe” to record, they didn’t necessarily know right away that they were going to record it, but Jennifer Nettles says, “We knew immediately it was good.”
The real question was whether or not it would make sense among all the other songs they were writing for their latest album. According to Jennifer, “We wanted to do it justice by having it sit within the collection that we were making because you didn’t want something to suddenly stand out sonically as odd. That wouldn’t have served it either. But she was right on in knowing that it would fit as a Sugarland song. And thankfully. I’m grateful that she trusted us enough to do it because it’s not something that she does very often, PS. So I feel pretty honored to be in that very, very short list.”
Not only did Taylor co-write “Babe” with Pat Monahan from Train, but she also agreed to sing on the song with Sugarland and even helped craft the video treatment and co-starred in it with Sugarland.
