Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland was just cast in the new movie, Harriett, about Harriet Tubman’s escape from slavery and journey to free other slaves through the Underground Railroad. Previously she starred as Roxie Hart in the Broadway production of Chicago, and she portrayed Dolly Parton’s mother in the two made-for-TV movies, Coat of Many Colors and Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love. While Jennifer loves all types of acting, she says, “My preference … I love the performing arts, and I love the live performing arts is a preference. Now I do love in front of a camera, it’s a very specific art form. There’s a lot of repetition, so I sometimes—I enjoy the ephemeral quality of the stage in that it, just what happens in that moment, what happens for that show is what happens. So I like that in my music and I like that in my theatre as well.”
Filming for Harriett will begin next month in Virginia, right about the time Sugarland’s latest single, “Babe,” will be approaching the top ten on the charts.
