(AUDIO) SUGARLAND’S KRISTIAN BUSH ENJOYS A VERY HONEST RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS KIDS

With Father’s Day approaching, Kristian Bush, who is the father to two teenagers, is proud of the fact that he has a great relationship with his kids, based on honesty.  He doesn’t know if they consider him the ‘cool dad,’ but he says, “My kids have a real respect for me and what I do because in the last five or six years, you know I’m a single dad, so I’ve had to be really clear with them and really honest about what’s going on in my life, whether it’s a divorce or band being on hiatus or making solo records or being on TV or making a musical or whatever it is to really show them the struggle that I go through and then how I overcome it, as a way of teaching.”

And for Kristian, his relationship with his son and daughter is a two way street.  He says, “They have really become this really cool resource for me as a human being, where they take care of me as much as I take care of them.  And I think it comes from the honesty instead of the removal, you know, you’re not supposed to be the friend, you’re supposed to be the parent.  But as the parent I still think you can be honest.”

Perhaps for Father’s Day, Kristian and his kids will find a special way to celebrate the release of Sugarland’s new album, which just came out on Friday, featuring their latest single, “Babe.”

Sugarland – cool cred with kids  :48

Kristian Bush – “Oh my gosh, do I have cool cred with my kids?  The great news is that my kids have a real respect for me and what I do because in the last five or six years, you know I’m a single dad, so I’ve had to be really clear with them and really honest about what’s going on in my life, whether it’s a divorce or band being on hiatus or making solo records or being on TV or making a musical or whatever it is to really show them the struggle that I go through and then how I overcome it, as a way of teaching.  Because of that they have really become this really cool resource for me as a human being, where they take care of me as much as I take care of them.  And I think it comes from the honesty instead of the removal, you know, you’re not supposed to be the friend, you’re supposed to be the parent.  But as the parent I still think you can be honest.”
