(AUDIO) The Cadillac Three Can Think Of One Or Two Songs They Sometimes Wish They’d Held Onto

The guys in The Cadillac Three are constantly writing songs, and certainly write more than they will ever be able to record in their career, which means they often end up giving songs away to other artists to record. While at the end of the day they believe every song finds its rightful home, Jaren Johnston admits there have been one or two that he helped write that another artist recorded that he later thought could have been a great song for The Cadillac Three.

For instance, Jaren says, “I wrote a song on Keith (Urban’s) record called, ‘Raise ‘Em Up’, a duet with him and Eric Church, and at the time, I’ve gotten kind of close with Keith so as soon as I got done with it I was like, ‘I gotta send this to Keith’, ‘cause he was really lookin’ for somethin’ like that too.”

Keith immediately loved it and agreed to record it, and Jaren says, “I didn’t even think about it really. I’m like, man, we could do this, but I totally think that we could’ve. It really came clear when at the ACM’s when I got up and did ‘Raise ‘Em Up’ with Keith. I took Eric’s part, and I was like, S(beep)T! You know what I mean? That was that moment where I was like, it really clicked in where I was like, I could really sing this song every night. That’s one of the ones where I’m kinda kickin’ myself.”

Luckily, the guys in The Cadillac Three are such great writers that they’ve written plenty other great songs for their own album since then, like their latest single, “White Lightning.”

The Cadillac Three – songs that got away :48 (NOTE: the “S” word is bleeped out)
“I wish that I would have…I mean, I don’t wish, because I think that they did a great example, but I wrote a song on Keith’s record called, ‘Raise ‘Em Up’, a duet with him and Eric Church, and at the time, I’ve gotten kind of close with Keith so as soon as I got done with it I was like, ‘I got to send this to Keith’, ‘cause he was really lookin’ for somethin’ like that too. So I called him and I said, ‘Hey dude, I got somethin’. you gotta hear it right now before anybody else does.’ and he goes, ‘Send it, send it’, so I sent it, and he immediately said, ‘I’m cuttin’ it, I’m cuttin’ it this week.’ So, I didn’t even think about it really. I’m like, man, we could do this, but I totally think that we could’ve. It really came clear when at the ACM’s when I got up and did ‘Raise ‘Em Up’ with Keith. I took Eric’s part, and I was like, s#!% (beep). You know what I mean? That was that moment where I was like, it really clicked in where I was like, I could really sing this song every night. That’s one of the ones where I’m kinda kickin’ myself.”
