The Cadillac Three knows that they don’t exactly look or sound like a lot of acts on country radio these days, with their Southern Rock infused single, “The South,” and their long hair and scruffy appearance, but that’s the way they like it. In fact, lead singer Jaren Johnston says, “I think when we started this band we were very set in our ways of like, we’re not gonna go with any label that wants to change anything about us. We want to be us, and that’s why for the first two or three years we did it ourselves, just printin’ CDs in the back of a van and sellin’ ‘em that night because we knew that we could control it.”
Fortunately they met Scott Borchetta at Big Machine Records and he assured them he didn’t want to change them, which is why they decided to sign with his label. Jaren says, “He was like, these guys, they don’t care. They’re gonna do what they do either way, and we’d rather quit than change. So, they’re lettin’ us be who we are, so it’s very cool.”

The Cadillac Three – people trying to change you :25
Jaren Johnston – “I think when we started this band we were very set in our ways of like, we’re not gonna go with any label that wants to change anything about us. We want to be us, and that’s why for the first two or three years we did it ourselves, just printin’ CDs in the back of a van and sellin’ ‘em that night because we knew that we could control it. And workin’ with Scott, the reason he signed us, I think, is because he saw that. He was like, these guys, they don’t care. They’re gonna do what they do either way, and we’d rather quit than change. So, they’re lettin’ us be who we are, so it’s very cool.”
