The guys in The Cadillac Three are all great songwriters, but they write so many songs, there’s no way they could keep all of them for themselves to record. Dobro/guitar player Kelby Ray says, “We’re writin’ a hundred, two hundred songs a year, and so that’s like, you gotta find the ones that are really who we are within all those.”
While all of the songs they write have some aspect of their own lives or personalities in them, it doesn’t mean they’re all right for The Cadillac Three to record. Kelby says, “Sometimes you’re not tryin’ to write it for yourself and it still ends up being something personal. Sometimes you’re not and there’s a reason we would never do it. It all works itself out pretty well though.”
The Cadillac Three’s latest single, “White Lightning,” was a very personal song, written solely by Jaren Johnston for his wife.
