The Mavericks just released their new album Mono, and according to Raul Malo, the title has several different meanings for different people. “To us, when we were doin’ this, ‘Mono’ represented a singular truth,” he explains. When we were listening back and we were mixing this record and putting all the parts in and everybody was workin’ it out, there was no lying, no fooling. Because it’s in mono, because it’s comin’ out of one space, every little bit counts, and so we love that idea behind it, and therefore kind of leading into the title of the album, kind of invoking a singularity.”
Besides a singular truth, Raul says Mono also represents singularity in many other aspects. “A single world, one world, one people, one music, one language, and music is that language. Music is that universal language that kind of transcends all, almost all our differences and it’s the one place where we can all come together.”
Now that their new album is in stores, The Mavericks are out on their Mono Mundo world tour, which kicked off on February 19th.

The Mavericks – MONO title :51
Raul Malo – “’Mono’, I think it means different things to different people, obviously as music does. But, to us, when we were doin’ this, ‘Mono’ represented a singular truth. When we were listening back and we were mixing this record and putting all the parts in and everybody was workin’ it out, there was no lying, no fooling. Because it’s in mono, because it’s comin’ out of one space, every little bit counts, and so we love that idea behind it, and therefore kind of leading into the title of the album, kind of invoking a singularity, a single world, one world, one people, one music, one language, and music is that language. Music is that universal language that kind of transcends all, almost all our differences and it’s the one place where we can all come together.”
