Thomas Rhett is a very successful songwriter who has written hundreds of songs in his lifetime. His dad, Rhett Akins, is also a wildly successful songwriter, so Thomas has been around the craft of songwriting his entire life, but he is still fascinated and completely amazed by the process.

“Most days, I sit down to write a song and I’m like, ‘I got nothin’.’ And then somebody will say somethin’ about their kids or their significant other, and all the sudden we’re all on the same page, and all of the sudden we have something to say. I was talkin’ about this with my buddy, Ernest the other day. I was like, ‘How does this even happen? How do people get into a room with nothing, with no idea, no melody, just the fact that we know how to play a guitar or piano, and we leave four hours later with a project that may be heard or it may not, but we created something.’ I feel like songwriting is such a gift, and to be able to do that with friends is one of the most special things in the world. And so, I truly am mind blown at how records are made in the first place and how ideas get there, but somehow, they do. I think there’s a million other ideas in the world, it’s just you gotta be willing to sit there and allow it to come to you.”
