(AUDIO) THERE IS NO BOX FOR BRANTLEY GILBERT WHEN IT COMES TO MUSICAL COLLABORATIONS

Brantley Gilbert’s latest album features collaborations with Willie Nelson, Lukas Nelson and Colt Ford, plus Alison Krauss & Jamey Johnson and, of course, his #1 song, “What Happens in a Small Town,” with Lindsay Ell.  But Brantley has also collaborated with the heavy metal band Five Finger Death Punch, along with Kenny Wayne Shepard and Queen’s Brian May, on a song called Blue on Black.  When it comes to working with other artists, Brantley says, “I consider myself a songwriter before I do an artist, and I feel like that allows me a lot of freedom to kind of bounce outside of whatever box there may be. But any more, I almost feel like even the rules that were in play are not anymore.”

Brantley definitely isn’t going to keep himself in a box.  He says, “I’m kind of open creatively to doing things that maybe even I hadn’t thought of yet. It’s a lot of fun and with all the rules changing and there being no rules anymore, the question has been popular lately, like, ‘Who do you want to work with next?’ And the answer is, I don’t know. I’m kind of just open to anything, really.”

Brantley enjoyed some unique collaborations for his latest video for “Fire’t Up.”  He worked with a fire-breathing girl, girl dancing on hoops suspended from the ceiling, and motorcycle riders inside the steel ball of death, all of which he referred to as a “redneck circus.”  You can watch the video now on Brantley’s YouTube channel.
