BRAND NEW SINGLE: “Half of Me” featuring Riley Green
Just a week after landing at #1 with “Slow Down Summer,” Thomas Rhett has a brand new single officially hitting radio this week called “Half of Me,” featuring Riley Green. The fun beer drinkin’ song about a guy who’d rather drink a cold beer than take care of any honey-do list or responsibilities says Thomas, “was I think the quickest song that I’ve ever written.”
In fact, the inspiration for the song came as Thomas and his co-writers were debating what to do with their lunch break. “I remember being on the road with my dad (Rhett Akins), Josh Thompson and Will Bundy,” recalls Thomas. “And it was right after we had written the song called ‘To the Guys that Date My Girls,’ and we were debating, do we wanna go get lunch?”
No sooner had they stepped off the bus when Thomas asked Josh if he wanted to get in a quick workout with him. And that’s when Thomas remembers, “Josh was like, ‘Man, half of me wants to drink a cold beer and so does the other half.’ I remember it was like, ‘We have to go write that right now.’ So, we went on the bus and we literally sat there for 35 minutes, and this song just fell out.”
Fans have already been responding to “Half of Me” in Thomas’ live shows, and it’s bound to become a summer sing-along on his Bring the Bar to You Tour, which kicks off next Friday, June 17th, in Gilford, NH.
