Thomas Rhett has two nominations at this year’s CMA Awards for Single and Song of the Year for “Die A Happy Man,” and he says, “To be nominated in the category of Song of the Year, not only as an artist but as a songwriter. I think it’s one of those pinnacle moments I think for me, because I started out as a songwriter obviously.”
As a writer, Thomas watched people like Lee Brice win the Song of the Year trophy and dreamed of one day being able to win himself. He would watch and think to himself, “God, what would it feel like to not only have sung a song, but to have written a song that most of your peers and a lot of people in the industry believe should be Song of the Year?” And Thomas says, “To me, it’s one of the most humbling things to be nominated in that category, especially it being at the 50th Anniversary of the CMA’s. That’s just the cherry on top. To be there in that environment with all of these people that paved the way for someone like me to come in and even sing songs in the first place and to have that song nominated as Song of the Year and Single of the Year. I’m blown away by it. I know that my co-writers are, as well. So we look forward to that night. It’s going to be awesome.”
“Die A Happy Man” can be found on Thomas’ new Tangled Up Deluxe album, which also features his latest single, “Star of the Show.”
