“Look What God Gave Her” is the first release off Thomas Rhett’s new album, Center Point Road. Thomas was not one of the original writers of the song, but as soon as he heard it, he knew he loved it and wanted to record it. “My producer, Julian Bunetta, and my dad actually started this song,” explains Thomas. “And I was on the road, I was opening for Kenny Chesney last summer and we were on a three-hour rain delay, and so Tequila was flowing heavily and we were just kind of passing the phone back and forth playing songs we had written – demos and all this stuff. And Julian said, ‘I wrote one with your dad a couple weeks ago, I want to play it for you.’ And he played me ‘Look What God Gave Her’”
Thomas was instantly into the song and he says he listened to it almost three dozen times. And he says, “Those are the ones that always stand out in my mind, songs that just grab your brain melodically, songs that give you a sweet sentiment.
Even though Thomas loved this song, he says, “I knew that if I could hop onto this second verse and add a bridge to it, then I knew that I could make it about my lovely wife. And I’ve had a little bit of success writing love songs so I thought that we should do one more.”
Julian and Thomas Rhett’s dad agreed to let Thomas re-write parts of the song and add a few lines to make it more personal, and now “Look What God Gave Her” is poised to be Thomas Rhett’s next number one song.
