Thomas Rhett’s oldest daughter, Willa Gray will be four in November, and having adopted her from Uganda when she was just nine months old, Thomas and his wife Lauren are blown away at how much she has grown up in such a short time, and how smart she is. Thomas says, “I think school has been huge for her. Every day I pick her up and I’m like, ‘What did you learn today?’ And like, her and her class have memorized Bible verses. How do you memorize a Bible verse at three years old? And she can literally just say it. She can count. She knows the months of the year.”
From a very young age, Thomas and Lauren have always thought that Will was incredibly smart and well-adjusted, but being in pre-K has really allowed her to flourish. “It’s just crazy to watch how quickly kids evolve when they’re around other kids, too,” says Thomas.” From Willa Gray being nine-months-old to now, almost four, how did she become such a person? Both my kids just have the most loud personalities and they act like me and Lauren in some ways, but then they act like other people in ways that we are just like, ‘Where do you get that from?’ And it’s been a real trip learning who your kids are and learning who they’re gonna be one day and just trying to soak it all in.”
Seeing Willa Gray and his youngest daughter, Ada James, grow up so quickly, is part of what inspired Thomas to co-write his latest song, “Remember You Young.” In February, Thomas and Lauren will have another baby girl they’ll wish wouldn’t grow up so fast.
