Thomas Rhett is taking the summer off of his Life Changes Tour to play festivals and to open for Kenny Chesney on The Trip Around the Sun Tour, and he says, “Being on a Kenny Chesney tour I think it’s a dream that I’ve had since I was 19 years old.”
And even though Thomas is now a headliner in his own right, he jumped at the chance to tour with Kenny because he says, “Aldean’s done it, Eric Church has done it, Miranda’s done it. Anybody who is somebody has done that tour, and there’s a reason for that. And it’s because Kenny has perfected the art of learning how to entertain 70,000 people for two hours.”
Thomas first opened for Kenny at a stadium last year for this two shows at Gillette Stadium, and he says, “I feel like I got to learn so much, even in just those two days of watching how Kenny connects to the person on the front row and the person in the nosebleeds. And that’s a very hard thing to do and so I’m anxious to just learn so much from Kenny because I think that’s every artist’s dream, is to one day headline stadiums.”
Thomas will resume his own Life Changes Tour with Brett Young and Midland on September 13th. You can check thomasrhett.com for all of his tour dates.
Thomas Rhett – Kenny Chesney tour dream :46
“Being on a Kenny Chesney tour I think it’s a dream that I’ve had since I was 19 years old. Aldean’s done it, Eric Church has done it, Miranda’s done it. Anybody who is somebody has done that tour, and there’s a reason for that. And it’s because Kenny has perfected the art of learning how to entertain 70,000 people for two hours. And it really is a terrifying thing to go embark on. And so last year, playing at Gillette two nights in a row was the first time I’d ever done a stadium, first of all, two nights in a row, and second of all gotten to even play at dark. I’ve done stadiums before, but it’s always been at 5 o’clock when there’s like 10,000 people in there – really awkward. But this was the first time I got to do that, and I feel like I got to learn so much, even in just those two days of watching how Kenny connects to the person on the front row and the person in the nosebleeds. And that’s a very hard thing to do and so I’m anxious to just learn so much from Kenny because I think that’s every artist’s dream, is to one day headline stadiums.”
