NEXT SINGLE (going for add 2/6): “Angels Don’t Always Have Wings”
Thomas Rhett’s tequila brand Dos Primos, which he started with his cousin Jeff Worn, in 2021, just added a third addition to its line, a super-premium Añejo. Thomas and Jeff had always wanted to start a business together, and he explains how they landed on tequila.
Thomas Rhett – how tequila company started :35
“So, Jeff and I are obviously third cousins, but we’ve grown up like brothers pretty much, and honestly are best friends. We always try to go to Telluride, Colorado, every year to ski with each other. And Jeff and I went out to a restaurant and were just trying a bunch of different tequilas. Our waitress kept bringing us different types to try, and when me and Jeff get into anything, whether it’s huntin’ or fishin’, or anything outdoors like, we go hard in the paint on it. And so we woke up the next morning and got on a ski lift, and we’d been talkin’ about developin’ a company together. We didn’t know what it was gonna be, and we looked at each other, and were like, ‘Dude, I have no idea what this means, but let’s start a tequila company.’ Even if only our parents and our friends drink it and like it, we can say that we did that.”
To be clear, Thomas was a fan of tequila before the ski trip experience, thanks to a crafty mixologist.
Thomas Rhett – why tequila specifically :28
“I remember going to a friend’s birthday party, and they had a mixologist at the birthday party, and it was all about what you could do with tequila. Cause me and Jeff both love bourbon as well, and we love sippin’ bourbon. And I found myself sipping tequila the way that I would sip bourbon, just one ice cube and an orange peel. And you can make tequila old fashions, tequila, Tom Collins. It really is a pretty versatile drink, and I think that’s what really led me and Jeff to tequila, cause we love it first of all. And second of all, we love bourbon, too, and you can do a lot of stuff with tequila that you can do with bourbon, so that really stood out to us as well.”
Thomas’ Dos Primos Super Premium Añejo will be available in March. His new single, “Angels Don’t Always Have Wings,” which will officially go to radio on February 6, is available now on your favorite streaming or download service.
