Thomas Rhett is nominated for a People’s Choice Country Award this Thursday night, for The Collaboration Song of 2024 for “Mamaw’s House,” which he co-wrote and sings with Morgan Wallen. But Thomas reveals that the song was almost never recorded until he was looking for a new song to include on his 20 Number Ones project, which he released in September of 2023.

“Honestly, we wrote that song so long ago that I never really thought the song would come out. Me and him never even talked about doing it as a collab, even after we wrote it. It just sorta kinda fell by the wayside. I think I was making a record, he was making a record. And when I started puttin’ together the 20 Number Ones package, I needed something new on there. And I was listening to ‘Mamaw’s House’ that week, and I texted him and I was like, ‘Would you mind if I got your vocal and put this thing out as a little collab for this piece?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah.’”
The 2nd Annual People’s Choice Country Awards will air live from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville this Thursday night (9/26) at 8pm ET/7pm CT on NBC and Peacock.
