The first time Tim McGraw heard the his latest single, “I Called Mama,” he knew it was special enough that he wanted to share it with his wife, Faith Hill. And he explains, “I wanted Faith to hear it, but I didn’t want to play … it was just a guitar work tape, and I didn’t want Faith to hear it. I wanted to sing it to her.”
Tim spent about 30 minutes learning just the first verse and the chorus, and he says, “I had it ready and I said, ‘I want you to hear this song.’ So, I sat down at the kitchen table and I started singing it and I couldn’t get through it.”
The song stirred up so many emotions in Tim that he says, “Every time I tried to get to the chorus I would fall apart on it. And she would start crying because I was crying. It has a simple message to it, but it just means so much.”
“I Called Mama” is the first release off of Tim’s new studio album, which will be released later this year.
Tim McGraw – first response to Mama :27
“When I heard it I cried when it got to the hook of a song. I just sort of fell apart and then I wanted Faith to hear it, but I didn’t want to play … it was just a guitar work tape, and I didn’t want Faith to hear it. I wanted to sing it to her. So, I was trying to learn the words to it really quickly, so I could sing her just the first verse and the course. About 30 minutes I had it ready and I said, ‘I want you to hear this song.’ So, I sat down at the kitchen table I started singing it and I couldn’t get through it. Every time I tried to get to the chorus I would fall apart on it. And she would start crying because I was crying. It has a simple message to it, but it just means so much.”
