Tim McGraw’s latest single is “Shotgun Rider,” but he has a chance to take home three CMA Awards trophies for his last single, “Meanwhile Back at Mama’s,” for Musical Event of the Year and as the artist and producer if it wins Single of the Year. When Tim first heard the song he knew he wanted to record it because he says, “I felt like that there’s not a person out there that couldn’t relate to that on some level, and also I think that it’s just something that was unique on country radio right now.”
Even though the song paints a specific picture of growing up and what it’s like back home, Tim says, “That song is just so nostalgic, and I think that everybody, whether you grew up in New York City or whether you grew up in rural Louisiana, you have those memories. They superimpose those sort of memories on their own life, so it may not be exactly what you remember but you get the gist of it, you get the emotion of it, and I certainly got it right off the bat.”
You can see if Tim wins this Wednesday night, when the 48th Annual CMA Awards air live from Nashville at 8pm ET/7pm CT on ABC.

Tim McGraw – Meanwhile Back at Mama’s :56
“That song is just so nostalgic, and I think that everybody, whether you grew up in New York City or whether you grew up in rural Louisiana, you have those memories. They superimpose those sort of memories on their own life, so it may not be exactly what you remember but you get the gist of it, you get the emotion of it, and I certainly got it right off the bat, and I felt like that there’s not a person out there that couldn’t relate to that on some level, and also I think that it’s just something that was unique on country radio right now. I think it just was something that sort of everybody wanted to hear something like that, and then to have Faith (Hill) sing on it just was icing on the cake because she grew up sort of (in) the same area that I grew up. We grew up like 120 miles from each other, so we both related to that so much that you could just tell that, I guess, in the song.”
