CURRENT #1 SINGLE: “I Called Mama”
When you listen to Tim McGraw’s latest #1 song, “I Called Mama,” it would be easy to think that he helped write it because he sings it with such emotion, but Tim says, “Lance Miller, one of the writers on it, is a great friend of mine. And people ask me, did I write it? Those that know me know that I write, but I rarely cut stuff that I write. If I write something, I’m pretty hard on it.”
In fact, if you look at Tim’s albums throughout his career, you’ll rarely find his name among the songwriting credits, despite the fact that he always attempts to write for each of his albums. “I write for every album but I always put the song first,” says Tim. “I mean, the song’s gotta win and that’s just the way I am. And mine’s gonna have to really just scratch my eyeballs out to make me cut it cause I’m so hard on myself with it.”
Tim has written less than half a dozen songs that he’s recorded over his 30-year career, including “My Little Girl” and “If You’re Reading This.”
