(AUDIO) Tim McGraw Is Doing His Part To Combat Texting and Driving

Tim McGraw is like any other concerned parent or citizen when it comes to the dangers of texting and driving. “We see it all the time,” says Tim. “I think you see it when you’re lookin’ out your window driving along. You see somebody, you wonder why they’re swervin’ into your lane and see them on their phone.”

He has certainly talked to his daughters about never texting and driving and he thinks eventually the laws are going to have to change or something, just like what happened with seatbelts. “You know, for a long time everybody fought against seatbelts and everybody fought against not wearing seatbelts or if there’s a law to wear seatbelts, how can you pass a law to wear [seatbelts]? But now it’s common place to put on your seatbelt when you get into the car.”

Tim says that’s why he lent his voice to the campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of texting and driving. “The whole campaign that started about texting and driving, it’s been goin’ on for a couple a years now. I think that that’s the goal, is to get to the point to where it’s just an automatic thought that you just don’t do that.”

Tim is busy putting the finishing touches on his new album, which will be out in May, featuring his latest single, “Lookin’ for That Girl.”

Tim McGraw – no text to own girls 1:03
“I think for a while, I think everybody’s been aware it’s a problem, we see it all the time. I think you see it when you’re lookin’ out your window driving along. You see somebody, you wonder why they’re swervin’ into your lane and see them on their phone. So, I think we’ve been seein’ that for a while. I think it’s something we’ve always mentioned to our kids when we’re talkin’ about drivin’, especially in the last couple years when they’ve gotten to the age where they were gonna start drivin’ more and more. It’s just, it’s a big issue. I think it’s something you see constantly and what’s the best thing you do is awareness. It’s the same thing about seatbelts. You know, for a long time everybody fought against seatbelts and everybody fought against not wearing seatbelts or if there’s a law to wear seatbelts, how can you pass a law to wear… But now it’s common place to put on your seatbelt when you get into the car. So I think that that’s what this sort of whole campaign is, not from what I’ve done, but just in general, the whole campaign that started about texting and driving, it’s been goin’ on for a couple a years now. I think that that’s the goal, is to get to the point to where it’s just an automatic thought that you just don’t do that.”
