While Tim McGraw strives to stay relevant as an artist and to keep his music sounding current, he doesn’t necessarily study what songs are hitting on the radio, or what the popular trends in music are when he’s recording. Tim says, “No I don’t I don’t really think about that too much I just sort of make my music. You know I just try to go in and be passionate about what I do. That’s the bottom line. I try to make a record that moves me and then hope you move other people by doing that. I know the atmosphere that I create musically and that’s what I try to do in the studio.”
However, Tim listens to all kinds of music and he is constantly absorbing and being inspired by all types of music. “I try to be influenced too, not only with stuff that’s modern and stuff that I hear on the radio modern, but also stuff that I grew up listening to and things that my kids are listening to all that stuff,” says Tim. You have to be permeable as an artist and sort of open-minded and open-hearted. But also I’ve been around long enough that I know the world that I live in musically and the kind of stuff that I do, so I try to incorporate all those things.”
You can hear the wide variety of musical influences that have affected Tim on his latest album, Damn Country Music, featuring his latest hit single, “How I’ll Always Be.”
