CURRENT SINGLE – “Undivided” w/ Tyler Hubbard
Several country artists have recorded albums featuring cover songs of a particular artist, period or style of music, including Rascal Flatts’ Jukebox EP or Martina McBride’s Timeless. Thinking about the type of cover album he would make if given the chance, Tim McGraw says, “There’s a lot. Certainly the stuff I grew up with, the 70s country music. There’s a lot of that stuff that’s so great. I mean, Alabama, George Strait – that was 80s – but some so many great songs. I loved 70s rock ‘n’ roll music.”
Ultimately, Tim would go with covering something from his favorite band, The Eagles. “I’m a huge Eagles fan,” says Tim. “I’d probably put Eagles number one on my list for my favorite music of all time. Cause to me, certainly now, a lot of their stuff is really country. I mean ‘Lyin’ Eyes’ is a country smash right now, if somebody was cuttin’ that song, if it was a newly written song today.”
The one concern for Tim about covering a song from such an iconic group, Tim says, “Gosh, how do you cover an Eagles song? I mean, there was an Eagles album that was covered by country music, and that was right when I started in the business. And I was really mad because I didn’t have a hit at the time, and I wanted to be on that album so bad, and not a chance in hell I was gonna get on it. But the Eagles, I’d put top of my list. I’d love to cut an Eagles song one day.”
We have no doubt that if he chose to do it, Tim McGraw would more than do justice to an Eagles’ song or any other artist he chose to cover.
