Tim McGraw is a guy’s guy who likes guy things, but he says, “There’s a side of yourself that you don’t get to discover, unless you live in a house with three daughters and a wife. It brings a softness, I think, and it certainly brings a perspective.”
Tim admits that he still has to work at knowing the right thing to say or do in certain situations, but he’s always trying to get better and he has figured out a few things. “I do know that what you have to do is you have to listen,” says Tim, “But that’s been the biggest lesson for me. The biggest things that I’ve learned in livin’ in a house full of women is to just sort of pump my brakes and sit back and just listen. And I’m not good at it yet, but I get better at it as time goes on.”
Another thing Tim is having to learn how to adjust to is the fact that his daughters are getting older and starting to become young women. He says, “I have teenage daughters and my oldest one has got a boyfriend now and she’s datin’ a college guy for goodness sake.”
Chances are Tim sometimes longs for the good ‘ol days like he sings about in his latest single, “Meanwhile Back at Mama’s,” when all his daughters were little girls and no one was dating or getting ready to head off to college and leave home.

But now I have teenage daughters and my oldest one has got a boyfriend now and she’s datin’ a college guy for goodness sake. I struggle, sometimes, to know what the right thing to do is, but I do know that what you have to do is you have to listen, but that’s been the biggest lesson for me.
