Tim McGraw loves pushing the boundaries with his music and exploring new sounds, but he says at the end of the day, no matter what he records, he will always be a country artist. He recalls, “A manager told me a long time ago, early in my career said, ‘Son, with the way you sing that you couldn’t go Pop with an ass full of firecrackers.’”
That’s been a bit of a blessing for Tim because it’s allowed him to cut a variety of songs. He says, “I can go in and cut, just give me the freedom to go in and cut the kinds of songs that I wanna cut, and the kinds of tracks that I wanna cut and not have to worry about where they fall. I don’t ever go in and worry about, well is this too Country, is this too Pop or is this too Progressive? I just wanna go in and cut records and let the song and the track sort of develop on their own and sort of develop organically and lead where they need to lead, ‘cause I know when I sing it it’s gonna be Country, because at the end of the day I’m a Country singer.”
Tim is currently out on his Shotgun Rider Tour and working on the follow-up to his Sundown Heaven Town album.

Tim McGraw – couldn’t go pop :39 (***he uses the word ass***)
“A manager told me a long time ago, early in my career said, ‘Son, with the way you sing that you couldn’t go Pop with an ass full of firecrackers.’ So, I feel like in a lot a ways it’s been a blessing for me because I can go in and cut, just give me the freedom to go in and cut the kinds of songs that I wanna cut, and the kinds of tracks that I wanna cut and not have to worry about where they fall. I don’t ever go in and worry about, well is this too Country, is this too Pop or is this too Progressive? I just wanna go in and cut records and let the song and the track sort of develop on their own and sort of develop organically and lead where they need to lead, ‘cause I know when I sing it it’s gonna be Country, because at the end of the day I’m a Country singer. So, no matter what kind a songs I cut, no matter what kind a tracks I lay down, at the end of the day I’m a Country singer.”
