Tyler Rich is from Northern California, which doesn’t exactly seem like a hot bed for country music to some people, but he points out, “When you think of California as a whole, you’ve got the Bakersfield sound – Dwight Yoakam, Merle Haggard, all those guys. And they really held down the fort for us. Now we’ve got, you know, my buddy Jon Pardi and Devin Dawson and stuff, and we’re holdin’ down the northern California fort and trying to make our mark right now.”
Tyler, who sings, “The Difference” feels like California Country in general is fundamentally the same as every other kind of country music, in that it’s about real life, who you are and how you were raised. As for his own specific version of California Country, he says, “When I got into junior high and high school and stuff I kind of really just started digging into other genres and R&B, and rock, and alternative 90’s and all that stuff. And what I call my own version of California Country today is, I’m lucky enough to have been influenced by so many different genres and people that I hope I’m bringing something unique and fun to the table that people can still relate to, and just have fun singing along and drinking to.”

Tyler Rich – California Country :40
“When you think of California as a whole, you’ve got the Bakersfield sound – Dwight Yoakam, Merle Haggard, all those guys. And they really held down the fort for us. Now we’ve got, you know, my buddy Jon Pardi and Devin Dawson and stuff ,and we’re holdin’ down the northern California fort and trying to make our mark right now. And California Country, to me, is … I feel like country music in general is just lifestyle music that’s honest, about who you grew up with, where you’re from, what you do and who you do it with, and how you were raised, really. And when I got into junior high and high school and stuff I kind of really just started digging into other genres and R&B, and rock, and alternative 90’s and all that stuff. And what I call my own version of California Country today is, I’m lucky enough to have been influenced by so many different genres and people that I hope I’m bringing something unique and fun to the table that people can still relate to, and just have fun singing along and drinking to.”
