When Tyler Rich first heard his debut single, “The Difference,” he was immediately drawn to it because it reminded him of his relationship with his fiancée, Sabina. When asked how much influence Sabina has on his music, Tyler joked, “She gets no say.”
The truth is, Sabina is Tyler’s ultimate sounding board and critic, but he has to realize why she might like a certain song, and hope that it gets her dance of approval.
Tyler says, “I play her everything, I mean every demo I get back every day I’ll play it just to kinda watch her dance. She’s very animated and she’ll tell me. She’ll be like, ‘That one’s not my favorite.’ Or she’ll be like “Oh my God, this one is special.’ And sometimes I gotta realize like, is it special because she knows this one’s about her? Is that why she thinks this one’s special? And she’s like ‘Oh my God I connect to this one.’ Or is it special because everybody would connect to it?”
Since Tyler and Sabina split their time between Nashville and L.A., he often has to email her songs he’s working on or thinking about recording to get her reaction, and he says, She’ll send me videos every time I send her a new song, with her just dancing and singing. But if I don’t get the video of her dancing and singing, I’m like, ‘Okay, that song sucked (laugh).”
Fortunately, Sabina loved Tyler’s song, “The Difference,” so much that she also agreed to star in the video with Tyler and their two dogs.
Tyler Rich – fiancée influence on music :33
“She gets no say, I’m kidding. Yeah I play her everything, I mean every demo I get back every day I’ll play it just to kinda watch her dance. And she’s like ‘Oh my God I connect to this one.’ Or is it special because everybody would connect to it? She’ll send me videos because she’s in L.A. So we go back and forth between Nashville and LA, and she’ll send me videos every time I send her a new song, with her just dancing and singing. But if I don’t get the video of her dancing and singing, I’m like, ‘Okay, that song sucked (laugh).”
