Ask Tyler Rich what his favorite dish is to eat every Thanksgiving, and without even thinking about it he will tell you, “100%. It is sweet potato yams with marshmallows on top.”
In fact, Tyler recalls one Thanksgiving when he and his fiancée Sabina, who appears with him in his video for “The Difference,” spent the holiday with her family and they didn’t have sweet potatoes on the table. He vowed the next year he would make some and bring them with him to share with Sabina’s family, who is from Poland … but he forgot. He says, “Everything’s so good, it’s incredible. But I was like, ‘Oh my God, I need sweet potatoes.’ And my mom called me and she’s like – John her husband – she’s like, ‘I’m at John’s family’s and his sister or somebody made these sweet potatoes that are the best I’ve ever had. I’m going to make them and I’m going to give it to you at Christmas.’”
Tyler was craving his favorite dish so badly he made his mom promise to make them for Christmas, and she did, and Tyler says, “Whatever my mom did to these sweet potatoes and these yams, which I think is the same thing, and these marshmallows, it was just like heaven.”
Tyler Rich – Thanksgiving :54
“100%. It is sweet potato yams with marshmallows on top. And I forgot, so my first Thanksgiving with Sabina’s family – they’re all from Poland, so she’s first-generation born here – but her entire family, they’re all here from Poland. And their Thanksgiving is like a traditional American Thanksgiving. It’s the normal foods except they don’t have the sweet potatoes. So two years ago my first one with them I was like, ‘Okay, cool. Next year my contribution is I’m going to make sweet potatoes.’ And then I forgot. And then I was sitting down to Thanksgiving and then there’s no sweet potatoes. And now everything else is amazing. Everything’s so good, it’s incredible. But I was like, ‘Oh my God, I need sweet potatoes.’ And my mom called me and she’s like – John her husband – she’s like, ‘I’m at John’s family’s and his sister or somebody made these sweet potatoes that are the best I’ve ever had. I’m going to make them and I’m going to give it to you at Christmas.’ I was like, ‘Mom, they didn’t have sweet potatoes at this Thanksgiving. I need them at Christmas. Don’t forget.’ She’s like, ‘I’m learning how to make them now.’ And let me tell you, whatever my mom did to these sweet potatoes and these yams, which I think is the same thing, and these marshmallows, it was just like heaven.”
