(AUDIO) WHEN MACKENZIE CARPENTER SAYS “DON’T MESS WITH EXES,” SHE MEANS EVEN AS A FRIEND

NOW STREAMING: “Don’t Mess with Exes

Mackenzie Carpenter’s latest song, “Don’t Mess with Exes,” is a clever cautionary tale about leaving the past in the past when it comes to an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend, and that includes not trying to keep an ex around as just a friend.

Mackenzie Carpenter – can exes be friends  :28

“Exes being just friends, I think that I have to stick with the theory of ‘Don’t Mess with Exes.’ I don’t think you should go back down the road because, even as friends you might slip back into your old ways. It’s just not good to have ‘em in your life, I don’t think. But one funny thing is, at all of my shows I like to ask the crowd if anybody’s there with their ex before I sing the song. Because I’m waiting for this one couple that broke up and got back together, that’s totally gonna redeem the whole narrative, but I haven’t found them yet.”
