(AUDIO) Will Chase Is Enjoying The Evolution of His Character, Luke Wheeler, On NASHVILLE

When Will Chase’s character, Luke Wheeler, was first introduced on the ABC drama, Nashville, he was portrayed as the strong, quiet, handsome cowboy, but lately his character has been getting a little more swagger and some juicier story lines. Will says, “I think that goes with recurring roles in general, and guest stars. I started as a guest star and you never know, the writers never know, is this character gonna latch on? Are viewers gonna latch onto this character?”

Once it was determined that viewers liked Luke Wheeler, Will says, I think then they started to write me as a real guy, and that’s more fun for me to play… when I became a series regular they really started to think three-dimensionally, and it’s great. The stuff with my son, I love. I have two teenage daughters, so that stuff hits home. I mean, we’re not as volatile as me and Colt, but that stuff is fun to play ‘cause I like messy and I like real life, and I think messy relationships is real life. And, it’s fun to watch somebody else have a messy relationship too.”

You can see new episodes of Nashville every Wednesday night at 10p/9p CT on ABC.

Nashville – Will Chase character evolution :44
“I think that goes with recurring roles in general, and guest stars. I started as a guest star and you never know, the writers never know, is this character gonna latch on? Are viewers gonna latch onto this character? I think they originally set me up, ‘cause everybody thinks I’m a bad guy, I’m not. But, obviously I was that cog in the wheel with the Deacon and Rayna thing. I think then they started to write me as a real guy, and that’s more fun for me to play, rather than the, dare I say, Jeff Fordham. But I like it ‘cause when I became a series regular they really started to think three-dimensionally, and it’s great. The stuff with my son, I love. I have two teenage daughters, so that stuff hits home. I mean, we’re not as volatile as me and Colt, but that stuff is fun to play ‘cause I like messy and I like real life, and I think messy relationships is real life. And, it’s fun to watch somebody else to have a messy relationship too.”
