One of the divisions of the Zac Brown Southern Ground compound down in Georgia is a knife company known as Southern Grind, which might seem a little random, but it turns out knives are a true passion of Zac’s. He has a huge collection of knives but he says, “I don’t keep count, man, but it’s always a journey. I’m always looking to see how other people are making them and what they’re doing and different design. I just absolutely love knives, I’m a knife nut, and I’ve loved ‘em my whole life.”
Zac’s passion for knives was fostered by his dad who traveled around the world for business and would bring Zac knives from all over the world. Zac says, “He would bring me different knives from different places like Mongolia and Taiwan and China. It was like my treasure trove to get to go through all the knives.”
Southern Grind makes high quality carry knives and sportsman’s knives and Zac says, “I’m always a student to ‘em. I go to Blade Show every year, which is here in Atlanta and we have a big booth there for our knife company for Southern Grind, but we get to see all the knife materials and all the knife makers from all over the world come into one place, so that’s always like Disneyland.”
We’re not sure if Zac ever gets a chance to check out knives in other cities when he’s on tour, but if he does, there’s a good possibility he has added to his collection out on the Black Out the Sun Tour, while the band promotes their latest single, “Castaway.”
