Jennifer Nettles’ latest single, “Unlove You,” is about a woman in love with a man, even though she knows he doesn’t love her back in the same way and Jennifer says, “You know, it’s interesting: the heart loves what it loves and we don’t get to choose who we love. Now, we might get to act in a certain way or react in a certain way according to what we are able to do in terms of if that person wants to be with us or not, or if you’re in a position to be able to, or whatever the circumstances may be.”
Some people might believe if you’re in a situation where your love isn’t being returned, rather than settling for less you should get some self respect and walk away, but Jennifer says, “I think the hard part when it comes to the heart is it is so personal that people can sometimes get judgy, but actually we should not get judgy and say ‘Hey, how about gettin’ some self-respect and walking away.’ I think what’s more important is authenticity and being true to oneself and saying ‘Okay, what’s going on here and what do I need to be my highest self?’ And sometimes being that highest self is going through the pain of loving someone or waiting and seeing if it can work or whatever it may be.”
“Unlove You” is the first release off Jennifer’s latest album, Playing with Fire.

Jennifer Nettles – Unlove You self respect :56
“You know, it’s interesting: the heart loves what it loves and we don’t get to choose who we love. Now, we might get to act in a certain way or react in a certain way according to what we are able to do in terms of if that person wants to be with us or not, or if you’re in a position to be able to, or whatever the circumstances may be. But, getting some self-respect and walking away, I mean, many times people grow to get to that point if that’s something that’s needed and sometimes not. I mean, everyone’s different. I think the hard part when it comes to the heart is it is so personal that people can sometimes get judgy, but actually we should not get judgy and say ‘Hey, how about gettin’ some self-respect and walking away.’ I think what’s more important is authenticity and being true to oneself and saying ‘Okay, what’s going on here and what do I need to be my highest self?’ And sometimes being that highest self is going through the pain of loving someone or waiting and seeing if it can work or whatever it may be.”
