Martina McBride just kicked off the Band Against Cancer Sarah Cannon Tour over the weekend in Dallas and Austin, to help raise awareness and support for those battling blood cancers. Martina’s latest single, “Just Around the Corner,” has been adopted as the theme song for the tour and the Band Against Cancer program, and Martina is honored to have her music used for such a worthy cause because she says, “I believe that music is really powerful. It’s the soundtrack of our lives. It helps us through hard times and lifts us up when we need it.”
This isn’t the first time one of Martina’s songs has been adopted by those fighting the cancer battle and those supporting them through it. Her song, “I’m Gonna Love You Through It” became an anthem for those battling breast cancer. Martina says, “I feel like I’ve been really fortunate that I have been able to find some songs throughout my career that have really effected people in a really lasting way, you know, that have made a difference. It’s not something I do on purpose. I don’t really go out looking for songs that are going to affect people that way, but when I hear a song like “I’m Gonna Love You Through It,” or ‘Independence Day,’ or ‘Broken Wing,’ or whatever, I’m moved to record those songs because I feel like they will be someone’s story… So yeah, it’s a privilege to be able to have songs that make an impact on people and change their lives in a way.”

Martina McBride – having meaningful songs :53
“Yeah, well I believe that music is really powerful. It’s the soundtrack of our lives. It helps us through hard times and lifts us up when we need it. I feel like I’ve been really fortunate that I have been able to find some songs throughout my career that have really effected people in a really lasting way, you know, that have made a difference. It’s not something I do on purpose. I don’t really go out looking for songs that are going to affect people that way, but when I hear a song like “I’m Gonna Love You Through It,” or ‘Independence Day,’ or ‘Broken Wing,’ or whatever, I’m moved to record those songs because I feel like they will be someone’s story. I’ve always said I feel like sometimes it makes people feel less alone. Sometimes you just don’t have the words to say and I feel like especially with a song like, ‘I’m Gonna Love You Through It,’ gives someone the words to say. So yeah, it’s a privilege to be able to have songs that make an impact on people and change their lives in a way.”
