Martina McBride Takes A Look Back As She Moves Forward

As Martina McBride enters her 25th year of having songs on the radio, she’s in the studio working on her next album.

A look back and you’ll see a multitude of career milestones. Her first #1 was “Wild Angels,” but it was a year and a half earlier that she first sang what was to become a signature song, yet ironically, it didn’t crack the top 10. In 1994, the subject content of “Independence Day,” kept the song off of some radio stations, but in the long run – raised, and is still raising awareness of domestic abuse.

Martina grew up in a small town in Kansas, where she says domestic violence was just not talked about.” Describing the battle of getting the Grammy nominated song on the radio she said, “It really brought that whole issue to life for me.”

And the battle had a positive outcome…Martina has long been a spokesperson for both the National Domestic Violence Hotline and the National Network to End Domestic Violence.
