Thomas Rhett will kick off his first headlining tour, The Home Team Tour, in February, and one of the exciting parts of being a headliner, for Thomas, is getting to pick his openers. Thomas says, “I feel like all I’m doing is listening to the new kids. I say kids, I feel like I’m an old man now. But I love getting to hear all the Kelsea Ballerini’s and the Maren Morris’s and the you know the Chris Lane’s and the Jon Pardi’s and all these people that are coming up who are putting out great albums and great singles. It’s just fun to think about you know I’ve always wondered how an artist actually gets to pick his middle slot and now it’s like, well dang. This is weird that all this is my decision. It’s like who do you bring on the road? How much production do you take? And it’s a lot more responsibility but it’s a fun responsibility.”
Ultimately, Thomas chose Kelsea Ballerini and newcomers Ryan Hurd and Russell Dickerson as his openers for this first tour, but there’s no doubt he’ll be picking lots of opening acts for years to come as his success continues to grow. When Thomas hits the road in February, it’s likely he’ll have another #1 song to his credit with “Star of the Show,” which just broke into the top ten on the charts.
